About
The Instructor
Quality music lessons to students, while creating a guitar ensemble that builds teamwork skills and organizes performances that can enrich the individual and the community.
Beginning guitar at age ten, James C. Robbins has built a career rooted in a deep love for the instrument. He taught class guitar at Bellaire High School's Art and Performance department from 1999–2007, directing students toward UIL solo and ensemble recognition.
A founding board member of Guitar Houston music society, James holds an Associates of Arts in Guitar Performance from San Jacinto Junior College and a B.B.A. in Management from UHCL. His musical inspirations derive from classical composers and early jazz pioneers, and he covers a diverse range of genres including blues, country, folk, Latin, rock, and jazz.
Outside of teaching, James collects vintage recordings and performs locally throughout the Houston area.

Student Reviews
What Students Say
"James is a phenomenal guitar player with a passion for teaching. I've been playing music for 20 years and he was immediately teaching me things I didn't know in the first lesson. He has a vast repertoire of music, helped me find some pieces to work on, and even helped me find a new guitar to play on. Can't recommend highly enough!"
"Our son has been taking private guitar lessons with James since elementary school. Even after all of these years, my son still enjoys his weekly lessons, and has become a very accomplished guitarist. Highly recommend as a teacher!"
"James is an amazing guitarist to learn from. He has a background in classical guitar but teaches pretty much anything with strings. I went in knowing just the basic chord shapes and over a few years developed proficiency in all kinds of styles. He's a stickler for form — that drove me nuts at first — but that is what builds your base. That is what you don't get from YouTube."
